Andersen, Tate & Carr (ATC), founded by Tom Andersen and his wife Ethel in 1988, has grown from a small, two lawyer practice to be the largest business law firm in Gwinnett. The firm now has 30 attorneys, including Andersen, who has been in Gwinnett since 1974. ATC has become one of the preeminent law firms in suburban Atlanta.
Since its inception, ATC’s main focus has been helping clients in Gwinnett. Over time, however, the firm has expanded to serve a broader client base throughout metro Atlanta and Northeast Georgia, as well as regional, national and international clients, serving their legal needs in a number of practice areas. The growing client base for ATC includes prominent local banks, developers, technology companies, small business owners and professionals, as well as regional and national banks and businesses with their legal needs in real estate, banking, business, civil litigation, land use and development, estate planning matters and criminal law.
“We offer our clients the sophistication of a big, downtown firm, but with the personal attention of a small town firm,” says Brad Carr, managing partner. Carr believes that the depth and breadth of the firm’s practice set it apart. “As we’ve grown, we’ve been able to develop expertise in almost all areas of law. We’ve tried to become a firm that is able to serve all of our clients’ legal needs. The size, scope and sophistication of our firm allow us to do that.”
Andersen, Tate & Carr has been a member of the Chairman’s Club for many years, and its lawyers have served the Chamber in many capacities. The Gwinnett Chamber Annual Dinner is a highlight of the year where at least two tables are filled with ATC lawyers renewing friendships and making new acquaintances with other Chamber members. It’s been a long-held truth for ATC that its Chamber involvement also benefits it directly in the form of many new client relationships forged through years of Chamber participation.
Among his numerous community activities, ATC founder Tom Andersen is a past Chairman of the Chamber and is a long time and current Board Member; Andersen has served in a number of capacities over the years and is a fixture at Chamber events. Brad Carr is currently serving as a Vice-Chairman for the Chamber’s 2007 Total Resource Development Campaign, sits on the Corporate Headquarters/Regional Offices Committee of the Partnership Gwinnett initiative, is a graduate of Leadership Gwinnett and is very active in the community. Partner Tom Tate is Chairman of the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services, serves on the Board of the American Cancer Society (Gwinnett Division), is also a Leadership Gwinnett alumnus, and works in the community with a number of other organizations.
ATC lawyers are extremely active in the community as a whole and really view community service as an obligation owed to the community in thanks for the success the firm has had over the years.
“I’ve always believed that the more you give back, the more you’ll receive,” says Carr. “We try to run our practice with that principle in mind.”
