Local People Delivering the World

Skip James, Director of Governmental Affairs, Charter Communications

We started with cable television more than a decade ago. Now we bring you so much more. We make access to all the latest communication and entertainment technology affordable, useful and fun. We’re Charter Communications®.

When we began as a small company in 1993, our only product was analog video. Today we’re a Fortune 500 company, bringing you the cutting edge in digital entertainment and communications for the home. Charter Communications is a broadband communications company providing a full range of advanced broadband services to the home, including cable television on an advanced digital video programming platform via Charter Digital™ and Charter High-Speed™ Internet Service. Charter also provides business to business video, data and Internet protocol (IP) solutions through Charter Business Division. Advertising sales and production services are sold under the Charter Media® brand.

Years ago, Charter Communications Chairman Paul Allen envisioned a Wired World™ — a global broadband network that would interconnect every home, facilitating the convergence of television, computers, the Internet and communications.

Today, Paul Allen is Charter’s largest shareholder and has interests in more than 50 other world-class enterprises and investments dedicated to improving the way people live, learn, do business, and experience the world.

Fueled by the availability of affordable personal computers, the growth of broadband networks, startling advances in digital technology and the explosion of the Internet as a vehicle for commerce, education and entertainment, Paul Allen’s vision is becoming a reality.

With the ability to transmit voice, video and data at high speeds, cable is the primary platform for delivering these services to the home and workplace. Charter is achieving the Wired World vision by developing and deploying advanced interactive services through our broadband infrastructure.

Grouped into three divisions nationwide, Charter’s organizational structure provides for efficiency and consistency in our operations, while at the same time allowing us to focus on our operating philosophy, which stresses the importance of local management making local decisions that affect our customers.

Our business and advanced network have been built by local employees who live and work in the same communities as our customers. With approximately 17,000 Charter employees operating in more than 4,200 different locations across the country, we’re able to respond quickly to all of your broadband communications needs, whatever they may be.

If there’s an outage or an emergency, we can move fast and reinforce our local crews with additional manpower, technical expertise and equipment. If a customer needs immediate service, we can be there the same day.

We also provide support to our local communities through civic and charitable organizations. More than 9,000 schools benefit from Charter’s participation in the Cable in the Classroom program, which provides free cable connections and programming along with high-speed data in schools.

We’re local employees delivering the latest broadband technology with care to communities across the nation.
