Community Resources

Whether reading to senior citizens, raising funds for the humane society or feeding needy families, the many volunteers who work behind the scenes are truly the lifeblood of the Gwinnett County community. Gwinnett’s volunteers work tirelessly to make Gwinnett a safe and prosperous community for everyone.

Gwinnett’s many human-service organizations make a remarkable difference in the lives of many. Volunteering is a great way to get involved while making a positive difference in someone else’s life and the health of the community.

An excellent way to get started as a volunteer is to participate in the Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services’ annual “Gwinnett Great Days of Service.”

The Coalition envisioned this one-of-a-kind event seven years ago in the spirit of Gwinnett’s slogan, Success Lives Here. The event is designed to increase community awareness for the many agencies and organizations that the Gwinnett Coaltion represents and supports. Leaders address specific needs in the county through volunteers who complete much-needed service projects for local nonprofits and schools.

In 2005, more than 75,000 volunteers, including large corporations, schools, small businesses, individuals, church groups and families, completed 170 service projects that made the Gwinnett Great Days of Service one of the largest volunteer initiatives in the country. Groups participate in projects such as landscaping, painting, gathering clothing and food, and decorating name tags for infant beds in the hospital neonatal intensive care unit.
