Obtaining a Driver's License

To obtain a driver's license In Georgia, the following are required:

  • Proof of residency
  • Surrender of all previous driver's licenses, identification cards and permits
  • Acceptable form of personal identification that includes full name, month, day and year of birth (first time applicants)
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or proper INS documentation
  • Proof of completion of a course on alcohol and drugs (all unlicensed applicants under 18)
  • Proof of school enrollment, or parent's permission to withdraw from school, or proof of GED or high school completion (all applicants under the age of 18)

Those who move to Georgia from outside the U.S., but who possess a valid foreign driver’s license or a license issued by U.S. territories and possessions, must successfully complete an eye test, road signs test, and a driving test. Also, they must submit a birth certificate or valid passport, and proof of residency.
