Lawrenceville has been Gwinnett County’s center of government since 1820. It was incorporated in 1821 and is the second-oldest city in the entire metro Atlanta area. This combination of small-town charm and metro affluence is home to about 28,393 residents. The town is named for Captain James Lawrence, commander of the frigate Chesapeake, whose dying words were the famous “Don’t give up the ship.”
