Leadership Programs
Gwinnett’s leaders ensure the continued success of the county by grooming other leaders to follow them. The most basic level of such grooming takes place within the county’s schools, boosting the leadership skills of both teachers and students.
Teachers as Leaders, Inc., patterned after the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce Leadership Gwinnett Program, grooms about 35 teachers each year from both Gwinnett County and Buford City schools, fostering leadership skills among these instructors, helping them gain new knowledge and perspectives on their role in the classroom so that they can help their students become strong community leaders. For more information, call 770-232-8803.
Through a partnership with the University of Georgia, Gwinnett County Public School teachers who have a master’s degree can participate in a cohort learning experience that results in a leadership endorsement. Additionally, those teachers who already have a leadership endorsement but who have not yet attained an administrative position can participate in the Leadership Academy.
Students also have leadership opportunities. More than 100 student leaders have graduated from the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team (GSLT) since its inception in 1995.
Juniors and seniors in Gwinnett County and Buford City schools have the opportunity to develop an awareness and understanding of the issues facing their community, to complete service projects, to serve on the Youth Advisory Council and to participate in some Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce events.
Participants in the past have given more than 14,000 hours of community service, raised funds for Habitat for Humanity and donated books to daycare centers and preschools. For more information about Gwinnett’s Leadership Programs, call 678-301-7207.
