Senior Services

Senior Centers around Gwinnett provide a place for seniors to socialize with one another and participate in a variety of activities. While service offerings vary center to center, some include meals, leisure and recreational activities, health screenings, group shopping and volunteer support are offered. Gwinnett County Senior Services offers non-emergency transportation to senior centers Monday through Friday for seniors age 60 and older. Senior Clubs and Groups

The Gwinnett Council for Seniors, 770-822-5147, maintains a list of senior groups and social clubs such as AARP chapters and senior center groups, with dates, times and locations of their meetings.

Barrier Free Gwinnett, Inc. offers help with home modifications such as wheel chair ramps and purchase of assistive equipment. The IMPACT! The Area Agency on Aging, part of the Atlanta Regional Commission, plans and provides comprehensive services to address the key needs of the region’s older population. Among them, a program called Aging Connection Plus, a database containing a vast array of services, helps to connect thousands of older citizens and their families to aging service providers in the Atlanta region. 404-463-3244

Continuing Education
A 1976 amendment to the state constitution allows Georgia residents 62 years old or older to take courses for free at any state college or university (except medical, law, veterinary or dental schools). The only condition is that there must be class space available. Refer to the Education section of this publication for listings of state colleges and universities that offer classes in Gwinnett County.
