About the Topic
While the basics of healthcare have remained fundamentally the same, for centuries innovation has continued to shape and mold this age old industry.
Almost any discussion related to improving healthcare, whether it implicates reducing costs or improving patient safety and satisfaction, usually has technology as a core component. Join us at the next Gwinnett Technology Forum to learn about one of the latest inventions that is making a mark on health care, the da Vinci® robotic surgery system. The da Vinci® robot help surgeons perform minimally invasive procedures. Gwinnett Medical Center–Duluth is the only hospital in Gwinnett to offer this technology to the community.
The da Vinci® Surgical System is designed to provide surgeons with enhanced capabilities, including high-definition 3D vision and a magnified view. Your doctor controls the da Vinci® System, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body. Though it is often called a “robot,” da Vinci® cannot act on its own. Instead, the surgery is performed entirely by your doctor. Together, da Vinci® technology allows your doctor to perform complex procedures through just a few tiny openings. As a result, you may be able to get back to life faster without the usual recovery time following major surgery.
Dr. Peter Mann give an overview of how the "robot" works and how is increasing surgical success. Dr. Mann is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as many other specialty organizations. He is also Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of OB/GYN at Emory University.
Types of Procedures using da Vinci® at GMC include:
∙ Prostatectomy, the removal of the prostate gland.
∙ Hysterectomy, the removal of the uterus and on occasion the removal of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and/or select lymph nodes, depending on your condition.
∙ Myomectomy, the removal of fibroid tumors.
See the da Vinci® robot in person and learn from a physician about how this innovative use of technology is transforming the industry. Secondly, learn from the makers of the da Vinci® robot about the technology behind this amazing tool and how they see similar technology impacting future inventions!
