Jim Maran was elected to the position of President and CEO for the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and assumed this position on September 1, 2003.
Jim brings a wealth of domestic and international experience to this position. Prior to assuming this leadership position in Gwinnett, he had a dynamic career with Motorola that spanned the globe for over 30 years.
Additionally, Jim has founded a corporation to assist companies, universities and governmental entities in solving open issues encompassing business strategy and development.
He served Motorola in a diversification of distinguished, senior leadership assignments including sales, government relations, program management/customer service, network infrastructure management, distribution, demand creation, and product development.
His positions with Motorola as a Corporate Officer have included Vice President of Strategic Relations, Chair-Motorola Georgia Council, Vice President of Latin America, Vice President of International Operations, and Vice President and General Manager of Land Mobile Systems-Asia Pacific. He has had management responsibilities in multiple domestic operations from the East Coast to the West Coast and Asia Pacific, China, India, Europe, South Africa and Latin America.
Jim holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Eastern Michigan University and served as Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity President. He is a licensed realtor.
His past board affiliations included: President-Board of Directors for Motorola Singapore Pte. Ltd, the Motorola Asia Pacific Management Board, and the Motorola Latin American Management Board and Executive Board of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.
He currently sits on various boards including the Advisory Board for Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful; AeA Southeast Executive Board; Technology Leadership Coalition-Executive Committee; the Alumni and Professional Advisory Board-Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Gwinnett Technical College Foundation Board; Georgia Chamber of Commerce-Motorola Sr. Management Advisor; Advisory Board for United Way-Gwinnett; Board of Directors for Quantum National Bank, Council for Quality Growth and Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia.
Jim and his wife, Jane, live in Duluth, Georgia. Jim is very active in the Metro Atlanta community and is a strong supporter and participant of business, educational, civic and environmental initiatives. He is an active outdoor enthusiast in hunting, fishing, hiking and golf.
Jim’s platform for the Chamber is to continue to build upon the foundation that has been constructed and continue the strong drive for economic development, job creation, plan for the future, utilize his international experiences to expand the reach of the Chamber and expand the initiatives to reflect the new demographics of the New Georgia.
