The Cooper’s Crew Foundation was founded by Kevin and Donna O’Brien, in honor and memory of their son Cooper. He was a courageous warrior who valiantly fought a rare and debilitating form of cancer. Diagnosed in 2013 with Clear Cell Sarcoma, he passed at the age of 14 in July 2014. The mission of Coopers Crew was created by the Suwanee community to support the O’Brien family in the beginning, but after their loss the O’Brien’s decided to use their community to raise awareness for children with cancer and support students at North Gwinnett High School who faced adversity through scholarships, Inspire other families with similar stories, and support funding for Research.

Since formation of the Cooper’s Crew Foundation, Cooper’s story has been shared at many speaking engagements and presented many kids with awards such as the Cooper O’Brien Sportsmanship Award presented by North Gwinnett Basketball Association to players who demonstrates the same values as Cooper on the court. Also the Cooper O’Brien Courage Award presented to a North Gwinnett 8th grader that has faced adversity and shown perseverance towards their education. Cooper’s story was also nominated and presented with an Emmy for the Children/Youth category in June 2016. The Foundation continues to bring awareness and raise funding through community events such as the Annual Memorial Golf Tournament and various businesses in the community. The Foundation also holds one of three proclamations declaring September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month for the State of Georgia, this continues to inspire our foundation to continue our mission of Awareness, Inspiration, Scholarships and Research.
