Director, Marketing & Communications

Overview:

The Director of Marketing & Communications will provide strategic direction for the marketing and communications department, with specific focus on developing and implementing sustainable marketing and strategic communications programs and associated budgeting.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with President & CEO and leadership team in the successful implementation of the Chamber’s multi-year strategic plan
  • In collaboration with Branding and IT, develop and implement annual marketing and strategic communications plan
  • Manage the day-to-day execution of marketing and communications initiatives that support all organizational pillars, to include the Office of the President, membership services, programs, and public policy
  • Lead all activities related to conception and implementation of strategies to achieve marketing goals and improve brand awareness through high quality communications; collaborate with Branding and IT to ensure continued brand awareness via marketing and public relations campaigns
  • Lead marketing efforts that support member recruitment and programs, and support issues relevant to the current business climate and the attraction of businesses and jobs to Gwinnett County, the metro Atlanta region, and the State of Georgia
  • Build and nurture relationships with board members and community leaders
  • Lead the Chamber’s efforts to build comprehensive awareness of the organization’s benefits across multiple platforms, to include print, social media, and event sponsorship,
  • Identify and grow award and peer review opportunities for the organization
  • Manage editorial and advertising aspects of Chamber publications
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure effective resource management and to drive efficiency in all areas of the organization
  • Lead coordination of press events and media coverage of large program and community-focused events
  • Negotiate trade and purchase agreements with marketing and communications vendors and media partners
  • Draft, write and/or edit all external communications to members, prospects, partners, elected officials and investors to ensure consistent messaging and voice
  • Write/review press releases, editorial, script, presentation, brochure, web and promotional copy to ensure quality, accuracy and alignment with strategic goals
  • Participate in professional organizations related to marketing, communications and chambers of commerce
  • Mentor, motivate and lead professional marketing team with continual focus on success and business objectives, while creating opportunities for talent advancement
  • Provide marketing support and guidance as needed for business partners and special events led by board members or organizations with whom the Chamber works
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, or a related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of Constant Contact and all Microsoft Office Professional applications, mobile applications, and social media platforms
  • Solid relationship-building skills with a network of connections to local and regional Atlanta-based media outlets
  • Established people management and interpersonal relationship-building skills, with the ability to speak publicly and present comfortably
  • Experience with graphics and print production
  • Strong interpersonal skills, maturity and good judgment; capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals and audiences
  • Excellent grammatical, written and oral communication skills; strong listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize constantly changing work demands and effectively motivate team to produce quality results on deadline
  • Demonstrated ability to manage outsourced marketing activities
  • Work collaboratively with staff to create a results driven, team oriented environment
  • Energetic, self-reliant, good problem solver
  • Ability to operate as an effective tactical and strategic thinker
