Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services (Friends) was founded in 1999 by State Senator Renee Unterman to supplement services for seniors and prepare to meet future needs of our aging population. Our goal is for seniors to experience a healthy, safe, and fulfilling life with easy access to transportation, health care, good nutrition and opportunity to be active and visible participants in their community.
Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services sponsors several charity fundraisers including: golf tournaments, fishing tournaments, silent auctions, Outback at Work, and many other fun events. These fundraisers plus private donations, sponsorships, grants and corporate partnerships support senior programs.
Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services areas of primary focus include:
- working to reduce senior food insecurity
- addressing access to transportation, especially Human Services Transportation (HST) for medical purposes
- covering the cost of materials or licensed professional services for critical home repair or modification
- promoting health, personal safety, and well-being through TenderFeet RN in-home foot care services support or collaborating with community partners through the SeniorBSafe fall and fire prevention outreach and education efforts
Our organization is 100% volunteer-based and we believe in giving back to the community. By working closely with local churches and schools, we are able to help seniors with minor home repairs enabling them to stay in their home and live independently longer.
We are proud to be a member of the Gwinnett Chamber since 2012 and actively participate in the Expo and After Hour events.
