Duluth

Known for its strong sense of community, secure place to live and work, diversity of people, and easy access to anywhere, Duluth is home to about 24,482 residents, making it the second largest city in Gwinnett County. Duluth has undertaken a program of sidewalks and bikeways linking all parts of the city together, and the Duluth Festival Center and revitalized Town Green is where residents are treated to movies on the green, the summer concert series, annual Fine Arts Festival “Barefoot in the Park” in the spring, the Duluth Fall Festival in September, annual holiday festival in December, Brown Bag lunches on Thursdays, DMA 5k run that supports the local graduating class, Memorial services to recognize Veterans, and the popular city fountain that all the children (and adults) enjoy running through for giggles. Duluth has earned national recognition for its community amenities, is a State-designated “Main Street City,” and was given the National Main Street designation for 2006.

Duluth has established a program for land acquisition for city parks and open space, and has held the designation as a Tree City USA for the past 12 years. Parks and Recreation activities are bursting at the seams this year with activities galore and just continue to grow and support the health and well being of Duluth’s youth and seniors through sports, indoor activities, dances, seminars, games and holiday activities.

Duluth prides itself on its history as a railroad town since 1871 after years as a Cherokee Indian settlement. The city’s growth was dependent on the railroad, and the city’s name arose from that connection.

Duluth has enjoyed the distinction of having the least amount of crime anywhere in Gwinnett County for the past five years and constructed a state-of-the-art public safety/courts facility in 2005 to ensure that its residents have the greatest security and peace of mind possible. Duluth began construction on its new City Hall in fall 2006.
