J. Alvin Wilbanks, CEO/Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools since March 1996, has experienced a vast array of challenges leading a school district that is the 12th largest in the nation and Georgia’s largest by far. A former Georgia Superintendent of the Year and one of four finalists for the national title, Mr. Wilbanks shared his perspectives on the opening of the 2020-2021 school year, a year like none other in his almost 25 years as superintendent at Gwinnett Chamber’s recent On Topic. He discussed the leadership imperative to balance different views about teaching and learning in the midst of a pandemic, and share his belief in the importance of schools and teachers in the lives of children during this time of national crisis.
